Hidden among the hills of Ohio are many out-of-the-way travel destinations. These attractions feature interesting lodging accommodations, historical places and fun things to do. There's something for every adventurous traveler in this state.

Little Cola Cabins (Hocking Hills)

Built from hand-hewn logs from the 1800s, these two cabins now sit cloistered on 65 acres of woods. Both cabins offer visitors a quaint feel of the simpler days. Yet, these getaways also offer visitors modern-day conveniences such as full kitchens, a hot tub and a pool table to make stays more comfortable. Nearby activities include hiking, swimming, fishing and golfing.

Malabar Farm (Lucas)

Malabar Farm is a state park that features a 32-room mansion surrounded by acres of rural land. Built by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Louis Bromfield, Malabar Farm is still abuzz with activity. Guided tours of the house are available year round. Depending on the season, there are also farm wagon tours, walking trails, workshops, festivals, dances and other activities to enjoy.

Ohio State Reformatory (Mansfield)

It has been the filming location for movies such as "The Shawshank Redemption," "Tango and Cash," and "Air Force One." This former prison resembles a Gothic castle that held about 154,000 prisoners during its 94 years of service. It also has the "world's largest free-standing steel cell block," according to Ohio.com. Seasonal tours are held at the reformatory, as well as ghost hunts and other activities.

Jungle Jim's International Market (Fairfield)

Informally called "Jungle Jim's Unusual Grocery Store," this 6.5-acre market is an experience visitors of all ages will enjoy. In addition to international foods, visitors can experience a 40-foot boat in the fish department and dancing animatronic animals. The market also boasts a Jungle Theater, a gift shop and a cooking school, among many other attractions.
