Top Picks for the Week of October 9th

New in Theaters
I'm afraid I can't recommend any new movies this week for the Portland area. I was excited that A Christmas Story's, Peter Billingsley was back to direct Couples Retreat. The sad fact is that is the title of the film and also the direction for moviegoers take, to retreat.

No Impact Man
No Impact Man, which was in limited release last month, makes it to Cinema 21 this weekend. A documentary following a New York environmentalist Colin Beavan and his wife try to make their carbon footprint as small as possible for one year.

New on Blu Ray/DVD
It was also a dry week for dvd releases. Hands down, I will have to recommend the real life version of Spinal Tap, Anvil: The Story of Anvil. I didn't know it the reverse was possible for a mockumentary to inspire a documentary.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was released on stunning Blu Ray this week. Being stated as the most impressive film transfer yet, the disc is jam packed with interactive and fun content. It is good to see Disney embracing their 2D roots and it shows by the six minutes of Princess and the Frog that is also included.
